The National Park Service on Monday closed the visitors center at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area as the building undergoes a renovation.
During the project, the Park Service's administrative offices in Boulder City will function as Lake Mead’s visitors center and bookstore. It will be open seven days a week.
The $1.9 million renovation project, paid for by the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act, will revamp the Alan Bible Visitor Center’s mechanical and electrical systems, replace its single-pane windows with more energy-efficient ones and add an elevator and walkways to improved accessibility for the disabled.
Park Service spokesman Kevin Turner said the work should take about a year. MaxFour Engineers and Architects, based in Englewood, Colo., designed the renovations.
