LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Penalizing Dotty’s is business as usual

Fri, Apr 8, 2011 (2:04 a.m.)

If we needed any proof that Clark County politics will never change, we need only look to the vote to change the ordinance governing taverns.

Because I don’t gamble I had never been to Dotty’s, but after reading about the actions being considered by the county, I decided to stop by a Dotty’s location.

I see now why there was opposition to its operation. The big surprise to me was the atmosphere; I was greeted when I walked through the door and the place looked more like someone had placed machines in my mother’s parlor.

It was pleasant, friendly and I actually felt comfortable and welcome — something I hadn’t felt when visiting a casino in a long time. It is sad that Dotty’s will be penalized simply for being on top of its game. I wish that instead of going after Dotty’s, its competitors would take a page from its book.
