A laptop computer caught fire early this morning inside Advance Technologies Academy, causing about $10,000 worth of smoke damage to a high school classroom, fire officials said.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue crews responded at 2:41 a.m. to the fire at the school, located near Rancho and Vegas drives in the northwest valley.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a classroom on the second floor, where they found a laptop computer ablaze inside a portable metal storage cabinet, officials said.

The fire destroyed the laptop and caused smoke damage inside the classroom, which does not have windows, officials said. Firefighters used several large blowers to channel the smoke outside. No one was injured.
