Metro Police announced today that officers arrested nine people, including a juvenile, for allegedly driving under the influence during a sobriety checkpoint this past weekend.

Police said 1,020 vehicles passed through the DUI checkpoint near Fremont and 21st streets east of downtown. In addition to the nine arrests, one person also was cited for driving under the influence, authorities said.

Police operated the checkpoint from 7 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday, which was partially funded by a "Joining Forces" grant for the deployment of a DUI van and a federal "Under Age Drinking Enforcement" grant.
