- Events guide: Hanukkah 2011 in Las Vegas (Dec. 19, 2011)
One giant menorah was lit Tuesday night under the glowing Fremont Street canopy to welcome the first night of Hanukkah.
Mayor Carolyn Goodman made an appearance just before the City’s Grand Menorah lighting.
The Jewish community gathered to watch the lighting ceremony led by Rabbi Shea Harlig, director of Chabad of Southern Nevada and musical acts like the Desert Torah Academy choir that performed songs in Hebrew, Yiddish and English.
During the holiday season the official Las Vegas menorah will be on display on Fremont Street between Las Vegas Boulevard and 4th Street and candles will be lit during the eight days of Hanukkah.
