Henderson Police seek applicants for Citizen Academy sessions

For residents curious about what it’s like to be a police officer, the Henderson Police Department is seeking applicants for its upcoming Citizen Academy.

The 13-week program will cover topics such as community policing, use of force, gang enforcement, the new detention center, communications, investigations division and narcotic enforcement.

In addition, the department’s SWAT unit will demonstrate various firearms, non-lethal weapons and chemical agents. Students will get the opportunity to fire various weapons.

Classes start May 17 and will take place each Tuesday between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the Henderson Police Department, 223 Lead St.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, and live or work in Henderson.
