With construction on the Smith Center for the Performing Arts coming in under budget, the Las Vegas City Council reallocated $3.5 million to other aspects of the project Wednesday.
The city allocated the excess from several different contingency funds to four different areas.
From the rental-car contingency fund, which includes money generated from the rental-car tax levied to help build the center, $500,000 will be given to the nonprofit Smith Center to purchase furniture, fixtures and equipment for the building. Another $1 million from the rental-car fund will be distributed directly to the center.
The city’s redevelopment agency will receive $1.5 million from a contingency fund set up with city money.
The Smith Center’s contingency fund will spend $500,000 of the excess to pay for the construction of a parking garage and sidewalk for the Lied Children’s museum.
The vote was unanimous by the city council at its Wednesday meeting.
