In the latest edition of his King's Court column on ESPN.com, ESPN college basketball writer Jason King says that No. 17 UNLV (15-2) is the premier team in the western part of the country.
King writes that the Rebels, who are tied with No. 1 Syracuse for the most victories in the country, stand out in a region that is otherwise struggling for national prominence this season. Here's the excerpt:
Who is the best team from the western part of the country?
"With the Pac-12 struggling and Jimmer Fredette now in the NBA, there aren't many teams turning heads out west. One exception is UNLV, which probably has the best résumé of any Pac-12, Mountain West, Western Athletic or West Coast conference school thus far. Along with dismantling Final Four-favorite North Carolina, the Runnin' Rebels thrashed Illinois in Chicago before embarrassing Pac-12 contender Cal. UNLV's administration couldn't be more pleased with first-year coach Dave Rice."
