Sunny, with highs in low 60s for Las Vegas

Warm spell to continue through the weekend, says forecaster

Forget about your heavy coat again this afternoon — more sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the 60s are on the way again for Las Vegas, says Kevin Janison, KSNV-TV meteorologist.

"Winter has been canceled!" Janison said.

He said there will be plenty sunshine today, under the influence of high pressure.

"And the temps will remain above normal… but not by much," he said. "After a cool morning low of 39 degrees, we’re expecting another run into the lower 60s today and Wednesday. It doesn’t appear as if we’ll get a whole lot warmer than that this week, but we won’t see a drop in the temps either."

Janison said the storm track will continue to guide storms well to our north.

"And at this point, the three-day MLK weekend should be quite pleasant also with highs in the lower 60s," he said.

According to the National Weather Service, this morning’s low at McCarran International Airport was expected to be 39 degrees, which is the normal low for today's date. The record low was 11 degrees, set in 1937.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 47 degrees by 9 a.m., to 58 degrees by noon and reach a high of 61 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 57 degrees and the record high was 69 degrees, last reached in 1996, 1990 and 1986.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 55 degrees by 6 p.m., to 49 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 45 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Wednesday's morning low will be 42 degrees and Wednesday's high will climb to 61 degrees, they said.
