If you're heading out to activities associated with today's Martin Luther King Jr. Day, prepare for some possible crosswinds while you're driving.

Breezy conditions, sunny skies and a high near 56 degrees are in store for the Las Vegas Valley today, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds are expected to be from the west southwest between 9 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph for McCarran International Airport, forecasters said.

A wind advisory was to be in effect until 9 a.m. for the Spring Mountains and Red Rock Canyon.

Crosswinds were expected to be strong enough to make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, forecasters said.

Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts between 40 and 50 mph in the Red Rock Loop area and on the east facing slopes of the Spring Mountains, the weather service said.

This morning’s low at McCarran was expected to be 46 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 39 degrees. The record low was 23 degrees, set in 1964, 1963 and 1962.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 50 degrees by 9 a.m., to 54 degrees by noon and reach a high of 56 degrees by 2 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 58 degrees and the record high was 73 degrees, set in 1976.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 52 degrees by 6 p.m., to 45 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 41 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Tuesday's morning low will be 36 degrees and Tuesday's high will climb to 53 degrees, they said.
