Letter to the editor:

Put the people back in control

Thu, Jan 19, 2012 (2 a.m.)

For several years, Las Vegans have endured a financial tsunami of foreclosures and unemployment. As opposing politicians cantankerously debate about the most feasible solution, it reminds me of Abbott and Costello’s “Who’s on First?” routine. How long must citizens endure the indecisiveness of ineffective leaders? Henry David Thoreau’s “Civil Disobedience” stated, “That government is best which governs least,” and that is a mantra that should echo throughout America. Citizens must understand our government is a controlling entity that keeps us divided and conquered. The government wants its citizens in debt.

To prevail during such economic times and inadequate leadership, citizens must provide a feasible solution to their own problems. If 1,000 trusted citizens decided to donate $1 per day for one year, if not more, to an escrow-like account, that’s $360,000. Benefactors of this particular group could address the economic hardships of its contributing members via a lottery-like system. No political, religious or social banter would be permitted.

This is about eliminating one’s debt, not about asinine platforms. If this proposal is administered on a greater scale, imagine the countless citizens being able to eliminate their insurmountable debt, keep their homes, eliminate the need to work extensively and have peace of mind of knowing “that government is best which governs least.” Remember the poetic words Abraham Lincoln used: “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” A lot of us are praying on our knees for answers because apparently our leaders are not listening.
