Bail was set at $1 million Thursday morning for a man who police say got into a fight Sunday night in North Las Vegas with a small group of people then allegedly fired shots that killed one man and injured another.
Terhain Woods, 20, who is accused of slaying Quincy Lavelle Hill, 31, was being held in the North Las Vegas Detention Center. He was expected to be transferred today over to the Clark County Detention Center.
He appeared via video conferencing Thursday morning before Justice of the Peace Chris Lee.
The judge told Woods he had been arrested on charges of one count of murder with a deadly weapon and one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.
The judge set Wood’s bail at $1 million, which was $800,000 for the murder charge and $200,000 for the attempted murder charge. Woods was arrested Tuesday afternoon.
Woods, who told the judge he had no questions about the charges, is expected to make his next appearance in person in court by the middle of next week, when he will be formally arraigned.
North Las Vegas Police said it appeared that a fight broke out Sunday night among a small group of friends who were gathered in a residential backyard, leading to gunfire that struck the two victims.
The shooting happened at 10:08 p.m. Sunday in the 2600 block of Ward Street, near Martin Luther King Boulevard and June Avenue. Police had responded to reports of gunfire, but said they did not locate any victims when they arrived.
Twenty minutes later, a police dispatcher received information that two gunshot victims had arrived at University Medical Center, police said.
Hill died at the hospital of gunshot wounds to the head and pelvis, according to the Clark County Coroner’s office. The other man has not yet been identified, but is being treated at UMC for injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, police said.
