Power outage prompts lockdown at county jail

Fri, Jan 27, 2012 (4:49 p.m.)

A power outage on Friday prompted a lockdown at the Clark County Detention Center, Metro Police said.

Visitation and in-house inmate programs at the downtown jail have been temporarily suspended, police said.

The jail’s North Tower was operating on back-up generator power, and phone service has not be interrupted, police said.

The lockdown will remain in effect until normal power is restored, police said.

NV Energy crews were trying to determine the cause of the outage, a power company spokesman said.
