An inmate's dash for freedom from the Tonopah Conservation Camp didn't last long, but it was enough time for him to allegedly steal a vehicle and test its acceleration abilities.
The Esmeralda County Sheriff's Office captured 40-year-old Mark Nemeth shortly after 9 a.m. Monday, according to Nevada's Department of Corrections. Nemeth went missing at 5 a.m. Saturday from the minimum-custody facility, which is about 225 miles north of Las Vegas.
Officers arrested Nemeth and booked him into the Esmeralda County Jail on a retake warrant and the following new charges: possession of a stolen vehicle from Tonopah, failure to yield, speeding doing 90 mph in a 25-mph zone and damage to a stolen vehicle, authorities said.
Nemeth had been serving two 24- to 60-month sentences for attempted burglary and grand larceny, as well as a 12- to 96-month sentence for attempting to possess a financial forgery lab.
