Letter to the editor:

Let’s give muskets another chance

Mon, Jul 30, 2012 (2 a.m.)

It seems to me that the framers of the Constitution never envisioned a world with automatic weapons.

As Americans, we do have the right to bear arms, but perhaps we should bear the arms that were available when the Constitution was written. Then, while someone is committing a crime, they can be stopped when they are reloading with powder and buckshot.

There is no reason that anyone should privately own an automatic weapon. Home protection? Fine. Hunting? Heck yeah. But you don’t need 50 rounds to stop a burglar or kill a deer.

As Americans we should be reasonable and stop the madness.
