New Las Vegas City Hall
No they aren’t neon. But a constellation of LED lights will showcase Las Vegas’ new City Hall with a nighttime display when it's officially dedicated next week.
The nighttime display of artistic patterns on the exterior of the seven-story structure will be part of the dedication ceremony, which begins at 6 p.m. Monday at the new building at 495 S. Main St.
The building's front face features vertical glass fins, which suggest water flowing over the Hoover Dam. The LED lights are expected to help with that effect.
Mayor Carolyn Goodman, members of the Las Vegas City Council and City Manager Betsy Fretwell will dedicate the building.
Joining city officials will be representatives from Forest City Enterprises, which built the facility for the city.
Public tours will begin after the dedication ceremony. A public parking garage is just to the west of the new city hall.
The building has been open to the public for about two weeks. Most of the city's departments that will be housed in the new building took up residency on Monday.
The first city council meeting will be held next Wednesday in the new council chambers on the second floor.
Regular city administrative hours are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The offices are closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The new 310,000-square-foot, $185 million building is being paid for by bonds, including federal Build America Bonds.
