Unoccupied house fire

A fire this morning in an unoccupied home in the southeast valley caused an estimated $70,000 in damage, officials reported.

Neighbors saw smoke coming the home at 529 Kelsford Drive, near Bermuda Road and Windmill Lane, and reported the fire, according to Stacey Welling, Clark County spokeswoman. Crews from the Clark County Fire Department knocked down the fire and ventilated smoke inside the home by cutting a hole in the roof.

The fire was burning in a subfloor located between the first and second floors of the two-story house, Welling said.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Welling said the $70,000 damage estimate was preliminary.
