Good Samaritan motorist struck

A car hit and killed a woman helping an injured dog Wednesday night on Boulder Highway, Metro Police said.

The fatal accident happened at 10:10 p.m. on the highway north of Sun Valley Drive.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 57-year-old Las Vegas woman had stopped her Chrysler PT Cruiser and was helping another person aid a dog that had been struck, police said.

A 2007 Dodge Charger was traveling north on Boulder Highway and didn't immediately notice the stopped PT Cruiser, which had its hazard lights on, police said.

The 47-year-old driver swerved into the right travel lane and struck the driver of the PT Cruiser, police said.

The woman was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center's traumaunit, where she was pronounced dead.

This was the 58th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
