When basketball coaching fails, it's back to football talking

Las Vegas Sun sports reporters Ray Brewer and Case Keefer recount their experience coaching the Las Vegas All-Star team against Findlay Prep in basketball and move on to football talk in the 11th Prep Sports Now of the year.

Quentyn Jefferson rushed for three touchdowns, including a 31-yard scoring scamper to help Valley High end its season on a high note with a 52-7 victory over Rancho High on Friday.

Quarterback Kennedy Williams passed and ran for a score as the Vikings finished 2-7 and 1-4 in division play.

“It was a nice way to send it off the seniors,” Valley coach Marcus Sherman said. “Every kid got a chance to play. It was a good situation for us for once.”

The Vikings were up 28-0 at the half, and Sherman hopes ending the season with a victory translates into a better season in 2013.

“We’re still a young team,” Sherman said. “We have the right core of guys. Rancho has had some struggles too, but we needed a win just as badly as they did.”

Rancho wraps up its season winless (0-9, 0-5 division).
