A tractor-truck hauling multiple cars caught fire after its rear brakes malfunctioned on southbound Interstate 15 near The M Resort, closing one lane of traffic around 2:25 p.m. Friday.

Clark County spokeswoman Stacey Welling said the truck was on its way to a car auction when the rear breaks caught fire and spread to the other cars. Five cars on the rig were charred from the fire, and thick smoke billowed over the highway. Clark County Firefighters doused the flames quickly, Welling said.

Welling said the fire caused $150,000 in damage. Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremie Elliott said no one was injured.

Elliott said several tow trucks were working to clear the roadway. Elliott reported there weren’t any traffic delays on the three-lane southbound road.
