Police: Black powder at Henderson home posed little danger

Wed, Apr 24, 2013 (9:05 a.m.)

A bomb squad was dispatched to a Henderson home Tuesday after police responding to a report of a suicidal man found a bottle filled with black powder that had been removed from a number of bullets, authorities said.

When officers arrived at the home in the 1600 block of Cloister Avenue just before midnight, they found a miniature liquor bottle filled with black powder and summoned the bomb squad, Henderson Police spokesman Keith Paul said. The home is in the area of Sunset Road and Arroyo Grande Boulevard.

Paul said the bottle of powder posed little danger. “The bullets are far more dangerous than this black powder,” he said.

The 20-year-old man was taken into custody for his own safety, police said.
