A fire at the Sky Las Vegas condo tower that briefly closed Las Vegas Boulevard was promptly extinguished Thursday evening.
Clark County firefighters received word of a fire at the high-rise complex at 2700 Las Vegas Boulevard South at 8:25 p.m. County Fire Chief Bertral Washington said a hot tub on a fifth-floor condo patio caught fire, and no one was home at the time.
The fire, which was contained to the condo unit, was under control by 8:42 p.m., Washtington said. Two security guards who attempted to extinguish it suffered minor injuries and were taken to University Medical Center.
Signs of the fire remained at about 9:50 p.m., as alarms could be heard and the smell of smoke was present at the property.
The fire destroyed the hot tub and damaged nearby walls and flooring, causing an estimated $20,000 in damage.
Las Vegas Boulevard was temporarily closed between Sahara Avenue and Circus Circus Drive.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
