letter to the editor:

GOP’s strategy on women is a thin veil

Thu, Dec 12, 2013 (2 a.m.)

What do conservatives really think of women? Do they truly believe women are secondary citizens? One must wonder with the actions the GOP and Tea Party have taken concerning equal pay, health care, birth control, abortion and other policies related to women’s issues.

As I write this, Speaker of the House John Boehner has members of his party attending classes on how to speak and relate to women. It’s nothing but a political stunt because recent elections indicated women in general favored President Barack Obama over Mitt Romney.

One reason that happened was because a number of GOP candidates made some of the most outrageous comments about rape, abortion and child bearing.

I often heard the statement, “It’s in their DNA, they can’t help themselves,” but a thinking person must wonder how true that statement is. Some of these men can’t seem to help themselves buying into pseudo-science allegations.

What’s next? Classes on how to relate to Asians, blacks, Hispanics and other minorities? I suggest Mr. Boehner consider a class relating to people in general, as human beings, not as pawns shoved around on a political game board.
