Forget the stories about how bad drivers are in Nevada; a new ranking says drivers in 11 other states are worse than those here in the Silver State.
Using statistics from sources such as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, National Motorists Association and Mothers Against Drink Driving, the website Carinsurancecomparison.com says the nation’s worst drivers are in Louisiana. Nevada wasn’t even in the Top 10, registering No. 12 on the list.
Vermont was judged as the state with the best drivers.
The website made its calculations by tallying scores in five categories:
• Fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled
• Failure to obey (traffic signals and seat belts)
• Drunk driving
• Tickets
• Careless driving
The higher the score, the worse off the states were.
Working in Nevada’s favor: Motorists in the Silver State are more likely to be ticketed for a driving infraction than anywhere else in the United States.
On the flip side, Nevada ranked as the ninth-worst state in the Union when it came to failure to obey traffic signals and seat-belt usage.
