Pot bust

Metro Police discovered a vast marijuana grow house Friday afternoon in the western Las Vegas Valley. It is the second major pot bust in the area in a week.

Officers with a search warrant entered a home in the 9600 block of Cathedral Stairs Court near Tropicana Avenue and Fort Apache Road at 2:30 p.m. They found an estimated 500 to 1,000 plants, but no suspects were found at the home, said Metro Officer Jose Hernandez.

The discovery comes in the wake of a bust of another massive grow operation Wednesday located near Desert Inn and Fort Apache roads. That home was said to contain 1,481 plants with an estimated street value of $4.5 million, police said, the largest indoor pot bust on record for the agency.

Hernandez said authorities don't know if the two drug operations are related.
