I think Dr. Mark Doubrava’s suggestion to build a public medical school in Las Vegas is a relevant and good idea. There are examples throughout the country of similar problems with feasible and cost-efficient solutions.
Texas Tech opened a separate medical school in El Paso in the past five years which is independent and successful.
The University of Kansas converted its clinical Wichita campus into a full four-year program with its own dean.
Kansas has just opened another independent school in Salina.
A first step for Nevada would be to create a separate vice chancellor for health sciences in the chancellor’s office that both medical school deans would report to.
A new Las Vegas medical school would also facilitate the creation and accreditation of new residency training programs.
