Las Vegas Fire and Rescue is investigating a possible arson fire started in a Smith’s Food and Drug Center Friday that caused shoppers to evacuate.

Firefighters responded to reports of the fire, spotted in the potato-chip aisle, about 4:40 p.m. at the Smith’s on 1421 Jones Boulevard near Vegas Drive. The building’s automatic sprinklers put out the fire before the firefighters arrived, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

The fire caused minimal damage to the store, and no one was injured in the incident, Szymanski said.

The fire is under investigation.
