An electrical short below the Top of the World revolving restaurant at the Stratosphere set off smoke alarms early today and prompted the temporary evacuation of the tower, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials said.

Firefighters responded to the Strip casino at 12:51 a.m., but by the time they arrived, maintenance workers had already found the short and used a fire extinguisher on it, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

The short occurred between the fifth and sixth floors of the tower at 2000 Las Vegas Blvd.

No injuries were reported. Damage was minimal, officials said.
