Letter to the editor:

People already get paid for having kids

Tue, Nov 26, 2013 (2:01 a.m.)

A recent letter suggested that low-salaried employees with dependents should be paid more than those without dependents, rather than for the work they do.

Seems to me that we already have a system like that in place; it’s called welfare. As I understand it, those receiving welfare get x-amount more for each child. This has created some very large families who seem to think that having a lot of children is their employment. The fearful thing is that if enough of these mothers were to get jobs in fast-food restaurants, that industry wouldn’t be able to pay the required inflated salaries.

Perhaps that would be a good thing.
