Accident

A pedestrian died this evening after being struck by a vehicle, the valley’s second such death in as many days.

Metro Police Lt. John Liberty said the woman was hit by a white car about 6 p.m. in the northbound lanes of South Fort Apache Road near West Tompkins Avenue. The pedestrian, 81, was not using a crosswalk. No charges were filed against the driver as of late Thursday.

On Wednesday, a man was hit by a Ford Explorer and killed near Charleston Boulevard and Durango Drive. That pedestrian was also traveling outside a designated crosswalk, and he was deemed to be at fault for the accident.

Lt. Barb Schmidt said the man, 60, was rushed to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
