A teenager is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday evening near Charleston and Rainbow boulevards, Metro Police said.

A 2003 Chevrolet Astro Van was driving east on Charleston as the teenager was crossing the street from north to south outside a crosswalk. When the teenager entered the eastbound lanes, he was struck by the van.

Police received a report of the accident about 5 p.m., Officer Larry Hadfield said.

The teen was transported to University Medical Center with critical injuries, and a preliminary investigation indicates he was not within a crosswalk at the time of the accident, Hadfield said.

No one has been arrested or cited in the incident, but Metro's investigation is ongoing, he said.
