CARSON CITY — The Nevada Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of a retired FBI agent in the 2008 hammer slaying of his son’s girlfriend in Las Vegas.
The court said today there were two errors during the trial of Edward Preciado-Nuno, who was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in 2011. But the errors did not merit overturning the jury’s verdict, the court ruled.
The Supreme Court’s three-judge panel found that the trial court erred in failing to preserve a record of bench conferences and in denying a defense challenge to the seating of a juror.
Preciado-Nuno was sentenced to two consecutive terms of 4 to 10 years in the slaying of Kimberly Long, who was struck in the head 13 times. Preciado-Nuno maintained the woman came at him with a hammer and he was defending himself.
