Attorneys were close to reaching a plea agreement in the case of a former Metro Police officer accused of using a department-issued gas card to fuel his mother’s car, his lawyer said today.
Joshua Logan made his first appearance this morning in Las Vegas Township Justice Court on charges of felony theft and conspiracy to commit theft, a gross misdemeanor.
Logan was arrested in October after Metro officials noticed an unusual spike in fuel purchases on his department-issued gas card, authorities said. Officers are supposed to use the cards only to buy fuel for their patrol cars.
Logan’s attorney Andrew Fritz told Judge Conrad Hafen today that the defense was close to reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors.
The judge set another court date of March 6 for Logan, who remains free on his own recognizance.
Leticia Rosas, a friend who lives with Logan and, authorities said, often used his mother’s Ford Mustang, is a co-defendant in the case.
She was arrested on counts of felony fraudulent use of a credit card and misdemeanor theft, the same counts Logan was originally arrested on.
According to a Metro arrest report, police followed Logan on Oct. 22 after a department logistics analyst noticed a peculiar jump in Logan’s fuel log.
Officers watched as Rosas picked up Logan in his mother’s Mustang and followed them to Sunrise Food Mart, 5780 E. Charleston Blvd., where Logan purchased gas using the Metro credit card, the report said.
Logan quit the force in November 2013. He had worked at Metro since August 2008.
