Fog in Portland forces plane from Las Vegas to land at another airport

Alaska Airlines has equipped its fleet of Boeing 737s to routinely handle fog, but an equipment malfunction on a flight from Las Vegas on Thursday night forced it to divert to Yakima because of fog in Portland.

A spokeswoman for the airline in Seattle, Bobbie Egan, says Flight 619 had 93 passengers and a crew of six on board.

She says it landed about 12:30 a.m. Friday in Yakima. The airline hoped for a quick repair but another plane had to be brought in. Some passengers waited in the Yakima terminal. Egan says the flight finally reached Portland about 9 a.m. Friday.
