Fatal wreck
A speeding motorcyclist died this afternoon after barreling into a car he was trying to pass, Metro Police said.
The man was riding north along Western Avenue just north of Sahara Avenue when he crossed into a southbound lane about 2:10 p.m. so he could pass other vehicles, traffic investigators said. While he was speeding around other drivers, a Chrysler 300 began turning left from northbound Western Avenue into a parking lot on the road’s west side, coming into the motorcyclist’s path.
The impact sent the rider flying off his bike and he fell in front of the Chrysler, which pinned him under as it came to a stop. He died instantly.
The car’s driver was rushed to University Medical Center with minor injuries.
The incident was Metro’s fourth fatal wreck this year.
