Director of state Board of Medical Examiners stepping down

Fri, Jun 6, 2014 (2:55 p.m.)

RENO — Douglas Cooper, executive director of the state Board of Medical Examiners for 13 years, announced his resignation today for health reasons.

He made the announcement at a meeting of the board and said his departure will be at the end of the year.

“I intend to have several extended medical absences, most of which I have forestalled due to the inability to take significant leave based upon my professional responsibilities to the board,” he said.

He did not elaborate.

He said he has asked Deputy Director Edward Cousineau to serve as acting director.
