Windy, dry conditions prompt fire warning for valley

Mon, Jun 16, 2014 (7:41 a.m.)

Gusty winds are expected to blow through the Las Vegas Valley on another hot, dry day today, prompting a fire warning.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the valley from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with flag-flapping gusts expected between 35 and 45 mph, meteorologist Reid Wolcott said. The wind is expected to be the strongest between 3 and 6 p.m.

A red flag fire warning also has been issued from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. because of the high winds and low humidity. The conditions mean fires could spread faster and easier, Wolcott said.

Despite the overcast skies, no rain is expected today.
