CARSON CITY — Storey County is ranked the healthiest county in Nevada, while Clark County falls somewhere in the middle of the pack, according to a national report.
Nye County, meanwhile, found itself at the bottom of the list, according to the report by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute.
Clark County ranked ninth among the 16 counties and one independent city in Nevada. (Esmeralda County did not respond to the groups’ survey and was not ranked.)
The organizations said they considered 29 factors in their rankings, including smoking, high school graduation rates, employment, physical activity and access to health foods. The rankings also take into account access to mental health, housing and transportation.
The report says people living in the least healthy counties are twice as likely to have shorter lives than those in the healthiest counties. And more children are living in poverty in the least healthy counties.
