Metro search crew rescues Red Rock hiker

Sun, May 11, 2014 (1:37 p.m.)

A Metro Police search crew rescued a hiker who fell about 15 feet yesterday in a remote location at Red Rock National Conservation Area.

Metro Police used a helicopter and found the injured woman and a companion just before noon inside a rock crevice near the 6,100-foot level of the White Rock Springs Trail, miles away from the nearest roadway.

Two rescuers were lowered using a hoist; they pulled the pair up to safety. Both were taken to an emergency landing spot and given first aid before the woman, 38, was flown to an area medical facility with what police believed to be a head injury.

The rescue was Metro's 38th such mission this year.
