Negotiators for the Culinary and Bartenders unions and the D Las Vegas reached a tentative agreement on a new five-year contract today, leaving five downtown casinos still facing a strike by union workers this weekend.

News of the agreement with the D was announced on the unions' website. The settlement contains the same key elements as earlier announced deals with the Golden Nugget, Fremont, Main Street Station and El Cortez.

“The new contract protects the union standard in downtown Las Vegas,” said Geoconda Arguello-Kline, secretary-treasurer of the Culinary Union.

But, she warned, “we are not done until all our members get a fair contract.”

About 1,000 more restaurant workers, hotel housekeepers, cocktail servers, bartenders and other union members remain without contracts at five downtown casinos: Four Queens, Binion’s, Plaza, Las Vegas Club and Golden Gate.

Members have authorized walking off the job at 5 a.m. Sunday and picketing around the clock at any of the downtown casinos that don't agree to terms with the union workers.

Culinary Workers Local 226 and Bartenders Local 165 represent more than 55,000 workers in Las Vegas and Reno, including at most of casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip and in downtown Las Vegas.
