Mon, Nov 17, 2014 (3:27 p.m.)

Six people were arrested on DUI counts and more than 65 other traffic citations were issued after a two-week effort by Henderson Police to curb drunk driving.

Henderson Police joined the Nevada Highway Patrol and Boulder City Police to saturate areas with patrols to catch impaired drivers. The effort ended Nov. 3.

Police said 37 tickets were issued for speeding and 29 for running red lights. Officers also issued tickets for driving without insurance, registration violations and invalid licenses.

Alcohol has been a factor in 54 of the 243 fatal traffic accidents in Nevada this year, police said. Nationwide, alcohol is a factor in about 31 percent of highway fatalities.
