The Cheyenne High football team won the game that mattered most.
After losing its first two games of the season, the Desert Shields held off Spring Valley today for a 12-10 victory in the Division I-A Sunset opener.
At 1-2 overall, Cheyenne is tied for first place.
“We’ll take any kind of win, any kind of way,” Cheyenne coach David Cochran said.
Cheyenne scored all of its points in the first half, using a Christian Tasi touchdown run and 23-yard touchdown reception from Zavieh Harrell.
The lone points in the second half came on a Spring Valley safety with about eight minutes to play. Spring Valley controlled the clock most of the game, but were hindered by turnovers.
“It was a grind-it-out, defensive battle,” Cochran said.
