The headline of the Aug. 31 letter “Something missing at casinos today” actually should have been “A bad day at Santa Fe Station.”
I too have personal opinions about today’s casinos, and like the letter writer I have been involved in the casino industry for years.
Mind you, I don’t have a limited view of the Silver City Casino but a broadened mind that’s spent years watching the transition from mob to corporate ownership and the obvious change in top-name properties.
I’ve not only fought my way up within a prominent casino chain — which ultimately purchased the Caesars brand but, at the present time, I’m one of those “rude and intrusive floor people.” In fact, I work at one of the “We Love Locals” properties!
I spent more than 20 years dealing any of the table games offered in a high-end casino to all levels of play and to people from all over the world. However, after all that time, I chose to take a different path.
I couldn’t be happier. I visit with a majority of the same guests on a daily basis, and I like to think that they visit daily because I’m not a rude and intrusive floor person.
I like to think that our guests love the personal touch that can only be given via a local casino. While I’m sorry the letter writer failed to enjoy his gaming experience, I feel that he truly needs to approach his projects with an open mind and a little more research!
Check out a few more local joints before making a judgment call — I assure you, with a positive attitude and a smile on your face, you too can learn to appreciate the local mindset.
Remember: One bad apple doesn’t spoil the whole batch!
