Apologetic Fiore: Video of outburst is ‘fabulous’

GOP Assemblywoman Michele Fiore’s remark for a fellow lawmaker to “sit your ass down” has become the subject of a YouTube video mashup that highlights what some in the Legislature say is trademark behavior.

During heated floor debate earlier this week on a bill backed by rancher Cliven Bundy, Fiore exploded after GOP colleague Chris Edwards said the bill was a waste of time.

“Sit your ass down and be quiet,” she said, later apologizing.

The YouTube video uses choppy editing techniques to create a song from the soundbite.

Fiore said the video was “fabulous” and wrote about it on her campaign website.

“It was never my intention to ‘get press’ when I lashed out at one of my peers on Tuesday for displaying behavior that was not only disrespectful to me and my colleagues but also to our constituents for wasting their taxpayer dollars by using chamber time in such a careless fashion,” she said.

The bill in question, killed by the Assembly, would have required the federal government to obtain permission to use land in Nevada and stripped the federal government of state water rights.

Fiore invited Bundy, his family and his supporters to rally in support of the law. Only eight Republicans voted in favor of the bill when it had its final floor vote.

This is not the first bout between Fiore and Edwards this session.

Fiore has accused Edwards of wearing a “wire” to secretly record Assembly GOP caucus meetings. Edwards is at the center of a Metro Police investigation after alleging that politicos bribed him to cast votes in favor of electing GOP Assemblyman John Hambrick as Assembly speaker in December. The investigation is ongoing.
