Two dead after car strikes street lights

Two men are dead after a traffic collision in the central part of the valley Saturday evening.

According to Metro Police:

At 11:21 p.m., a 2005 Hyundai XG350 was speeding west on Charleston Boulevard, east of Mohawk Street, when the 31-year-old driver lost control.

The Hyundai drove onto the north curb and sidewalk, striking two street lights before re-entering the road. The car came to rest straddling the inside westbound travel lane and the median.

The driver and the 27-year-old passenger were both pronounced dead on the scene.

This incident marks the 122nd and 123rd traffic fatalities in Metro's jurisdiction this year.

The collision remains under investigation.
