The driver of a silver Nissan Pathfinder injured a family upon crashing into a bus stop shelter at North Rainbow Boulevard just north of West Lake Mead, said Metro Police.

The crash occurred on Saturday about 5:45 p.m. Witnesses said the SUV veered off the road, said Sgt. Richard Strader.

According to a press release, the mother of two children was in critical condition, her nine-year-old daughter was in serious condition, and the four-year-old boy in moderate condition. They were transported to UMC.

The grandmother was not injured but went with the family to the hospital, said Strader.

A female passenger in the car had minor injuries, according to a press release. A man sitting on a bench also escaped with minor injuries.

The male driver is in custody for driving under the influence as well as unrelated traffic warrants, he said.

A section of the road in front of the Best in the West shopping center was closed for several hours.
