Injured North Las Vegas motorcycle officer recovering

Tue, Jan 27, 2015 (12:42 p.m.)

A sergeant says an injured North Las Vegas police officer could be released soon from a hospital after crashing his motorcycle on a rain-slickened freeway near downtown Las Vegas.

Sgt. Chrissie Coon says the officer was treated overnight at University Medical Center in Las Vegas after the crash about 8:30 p.m. Monday on southbound Interstate 15 near the Washington Avenue exit.

His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, and his name wasn't immediately made public.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson says investigators are seeking witnesses.

Hixson says some witnesses said a driver and a dark-colored sedan may have been involved.

Hixson says weather may also have been a factor.

The National Weather Service says a light rain was falling about the same time in the Las Vegas area.
