Hearing set in police shooting of man armed with pellet gun

Wed, Jan 28, 2015 (8:44 a.m.)

Officials say evidence will be aired Friday in the police slaying last summer of a man who authorities say pulled a pellet gun while running from officers in North Las Vegas.

The fact-finding hearing in the death of Kenneth Alan Johnson is scheduled for the Clark County Commission chambers at the county government center.

A prosecutor will present witnesses and facts to a presiding officer and ombudsman, and the review will be aired on Clark County television streamed on the Internet.

Police say the 34-year-old Johnson fled on a motor scooter and displayed the pellet gun during a foot chase early July 18 near Revere Street and Tropical Avenue.

Officer Robert Makinster shot and fatally wounded Johnson.

The 29-year-old Makinster was identified as a six-year police veteran. He wasn't injured.
