Letter to the editor:

Enforce penalties for gun offenses

Fri, Jan 30, 2015 (2 a.m.)

We don’t need new gun laws. What we need is the courts to enforce the laws on hand.

There was a kid in his 20s who shot and killed a friend of his and said it was a accident. The fact is another young kid was dead for no reason at all.

What was he doing with a gun in the first place?

The bottom line is he only got 18 months to eight years in jail, whereas he should have gotten years in jail just for having a gun, never mind taking a life with it. He was just one of many people who carry a gun and commit a crime who are not charged at all for carrying a gun.

What ever happened to the old saying, “You do the crime, do the time”? Carrying a gun should mean doing more time.
