UNLV football continues to add Big 5 opponents to its future nonconference schedules as the program today announced a home-and-home series with Arizona State starting in 2020.
The Sun Devils will come to Las Vegas on Sept. 12, 2020, with the Rebels returning the favor in Tempe, Ariz., the following season on Sept. 11, 2021. The teams have met only once before, in 2008, when the Rebels upset 13th-ranked ASU 23-20 in overtime at Sun Devil Stadium.
“We are thrilled to announce this series with Arizona State,” UNLV Athletics Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy said in a statement. “The fact that these two universities are located so close to each other will make it great for both fan bases. It makes a lot of sense to play a nationally successful Pac-12 Conference opponent from a bordering state and we are excited to be hosting the Sun Devils for the first time ever to open the series.”
The Arizona State series will be the first half of back-to-backs against Big 5 opponents, as the Rebels are slated to head to Iowa State on Sept. 19, 2020, and then host the Cyclones on Sept. 18, 2021.
